Graveyard Fields on Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina, USA in A
A scenic view of Graveyard Fields from the Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina, USA in early October at peak fall color. This is NOT artificial coloration, but is the actual appearance of this ridge. A giant windstorm blew all the trees off of this ridge between 500-1000 years ago. A spruce forest grew back, but in 1925 a severe fire burned the entire forest, including the nutrients in the soil. Eventually a forest will return. For now Blackberry briars and other small plants grow on the ridge.
